Paediatric Orthopaedics

The Department of Paediatric Orthopaedics at CMC Vellore provides specialised care for children with a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions

The Department of Paediatric Orthopaedics at CMC Vellore provides specialised care for children with a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions — from fractures and infections to congenital deformities, limb deficiencies, skeletal dysplasias, neuromuscular conditions and bone tumours.

The department began as a dedicated paediatric orthopaedic unit in 2007 and became an independent specialty department in 2019. Today, the team sees approximately 600 outpatients every week and performs around 1,300–1,500 surgical procedures annually.

Care is provided at CMC Vellore and Ranipet, with outreach surgical programmes extending specialised orthopaedic care to mission hospitals across India.

The department also combines clinical care with clinical, genetic and regenerative medicine research, supported by dedicated laboratory and stem cell research facilities.
