Paediatric Respiratory Services at CMC Vellore provides specialised care for children from birth through adolescence with a broad range of acute and chronic respiratory conditions, including rare congenital anomalies and complex acquired lung diseases.
With over 7,500 outpatient visits every year, the service provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic care, supported by a multidisciplinary team of paediatric specialists, surgeons, respiratory therapists, nurses and allied health professionals.
Through advanced facilities, specialist consultations and a collaborative approach, the team provides individualised, accessible and comprehensive respiratory care for every child.
Outpatient & Inpatient Care: Specialised respiratory consultations through general and private clinics, with 24×7 inpatient support across wards, private rooms and paediatric intensive care units.
Pulmonary Function Testing: Comprehensive lung function assessment including spirometry, lung volumes, DLCO, FeNO and nasal NO testing.
Sweat Chloride Testing: Macroduct® sweat collection and chloride analysis for the diagnosis of cystic fibrosis.
Bronchoscopy Services: Diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy, including endobronchial ultrasound, cryobiopsy, foreign body retrieval and whole lung lavage, in collaboration with Paediatric Surgery, ENT and Respiratory teams.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation: Individualised programmes including airway clearance, breathing exercises, postural drainage, cough-assist support, nutrition, psychological support and caregiver education.
Long-Term Respiratory Care: Ongoing specialised care for conditions including asthma, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, primary ciliary dyskinesia, congenital lung and airway anomalies, sleep-related breathing disorders and neuromuscular respiratory conditions.
Postdoctoral Fellowship in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine
A 2-year fellowship programme with an intake of 1 fellow per year.
Undergraduate & Postgraduate Education
Regular bedside teaching and lectures for MBBS and MD Paediatrics students.
Workshops & CMEs
Hands-on training in areas including asthma care and cystic fibrosis management.
Research & Innovation
Research focuses on cystic fibrosis, primary ciliary dyskinesia and bronchiolitis obliterans, supported by national and international grants. Ongoing projects also explore asthma, sleep disorders and paediatric infections.
