“Darshini is running around and playing. We got our daughter back. Thank you.” These were the words from a thankful mother that kept the PICU team going.
When three-year-old Sai Darshini was rushed to the PICU, she was in cardiogenic shock due to severe myocarditis.
Her condition was critical.
Urgent veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA ECMO) was her only hope to support her failing little heart.
Our team of paediatric intensivists, cardiologists, surgeons, nurses, and therapists stepped in with timely ECMO intervention. From then began Sai Darshini’s miraculous recovery.
A three-year-old surviving nine days on ECMO is no easy task. Little Sai faced and overcame complications of acute kidney injury requiring renal replacement therapy and
hospital-acquired infections.
Her resilient spirit, the prayers of a distraught mother, and the wholehearted dedication of the CMC team helped her overcome each challenge. Steadily, her heart function showed improvement, allowing us to wean her off ECMO.
Her recovery and her journey back home restored many smiles and lightened many hearts.
Our healing continues. Every day.
