Two-year-old Tanya’s fun-filled evening took a shocking turn. A snake slithered into her path, its venomous fangs piercing her tender skin. Rushed to a nearby government hospital, Tanya’s family watched helplessly as doctors administered 10 vials of anti-snake venom.
Tanya’s condition only worsened. Her tiny body began to bleed, and breathing became heavy and difficult. Wasting no precious minute, she was rushed to the PICU. Time had only worsened her situation. The snake’s toxin had ravaged her kidneys, causing renal failure, and triggered rhabdomyolysis, a condition where muscles break down. The medical team promptly initiated dialysis to support her failing kidneys, a treatment she would require for 10 long days. As days turned into weeks, her laboured breathing, assisted by the ventilator, continued as Tanya’s tiny body bravely fought against the poison.
The PICU became her home-her family constantly checking in and prayerfully upholding her. The two-month battle was finally over. Tanya was stable, her lungs could breathe on their own, and the poison had left her.
The two months of stay in the ICU were a huge financial burden for her family. Our team had her back-we helped them through the financial crisis and made sure that they returned home with their little warrior, facing no expenses whatsoever.
